Love, joy, peace ...

The school children at a Christian school in Japan had a contest ... similar to this one from a few years ago.

The first calligraphy writing of the new year is a time to express one's hopes for the year. Each school usually decides in advance on the theme, and each grade practices writing one word or phrase.

This year's theme was the fruit of the spirit.

After the half-day event, which consisted of the careful practicing with brushes, the parents' attentive assistance, a lunch of traditional New Year's foods, and the awaited awards ceremony, the master calligrapher began taking down the samples which she had posted on the walls around the room.

A friend rescued the samples from being thrown away.

And, today, framed copies of those almost-thrown-away samples grace a wall in my apartment, causing me to consider how well I am (or am not) walking in the Spirit.

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

Pray with me that the fruit of the Spirit will become more and more evident in my life as God leads me and I follow.
