One day in January, as I drove Little Guy to school, I caught him up on family news and informed him that Jim's aunt was in the hospital.
His immediate response was, "Is she going to meet Jesus?"
Yes, LG, yes, she is.
I love his matter-of-fact anticipation of a believer's death, and his familiarity with funerals. And, as a friend said of Jim's aunt's funeral, "It's a good one to go to." Yes! I definitely want my children to be more familiar with funerals of elderly saints than with funerals that are more of the tragic sort.
In 2012, we were together at an out-of-state family reunion with all of Jim's aunts & uncles on his father's side. The formal picture from that reunion hangs on the wall in our hallway. The six couples were mostly in their 70s and 80s.
In 2017 we were at a smaller family reunion (picnic supper at a local park) with all 12 of them as well. Today 1/4 of them have met Jesus.
Sixteen months after we were married, we flew to Georgia for Thanksgiving with my parents and my dad's two sisters & their husbands, and several cousins and their children. The three couples were mostly in their 70s and 80s. Within 5 1/2 years, half of them had met Jesus.
LG, by his own admission, is very interested in all the logistics of a funeral & burial (and he has had several opportunities to study such things up close). But my prayer is that he will also examine the life and the faith of those who have gone before, and love their Savior just as much as they did.
