Almost 5 years ago I wrote about car seats. Who knew that 8 1/2 years into parenting, we'd still be buying car seats?!?
Car seats we have owned ...
- LG's infant car seat (red Chicco Key Fit 30) [We did not purchase this one.]
- extra base for Chicco Key Fit 30
- LG's "big boy" car seat (Graco Nautilus 85)
- LG's big boy car seat for Jim's car (discontinued floor model on deep discount at Toys 'R' Us)
- LG's big boy car seat for Jim's car after we put the one from Jim's car into our carpool van (cheap one maybe from Sam's Club)
- LM used LG's infant car seat
- free one LM received from car seat check (but which didn't work for us because I could not properly reinstall it in the sitter's car)
- second red Chicco Key Fit 30 we bought from a friend
- LM's "big girl" car seat (the law had changed since LG was a baby, & it now had to be rear-facing until age 2) - Graco Extend2Fit (Black Friday deal)
- LG's high back booster (Graco Affix Highback) to go in Jim's car while LM rode in what was previously LM's big boy carseat (This was also a Black Friday deal)
- BubbleBum inflatable booster (to pack in our luggage when flying; but the trip was cancelled)
- 2nd Graco Affix Highback after the mice ate up the highback part of the booster (!) when it was sitting in our garage one day when we didn't need it (purchased 50% off)
For those following along at home, in our van we have:
- LM's Graco Extend2Fit
- LG's Graco Nautilus 85
- and the bottom part of the Affix booster (the back part of which was eaten by mice), which is used when a friend comes with us.
In Jim's car we have:
- LM's "big girl" car seat.
Inside our house (where the mice cannot eat it; Ahem!) we have:
- an extra "big girl" car seat that is easy to put in the sitter's car or Grandma's car (this one was in the carpool van & came home to roost after we stopped commuting 65 miles to school).
In a box in our basement we have:
- a highback Affix (that has not been eaten by mice)
Technically, LM does not need to use his Nautilus (it used to be a 5-point harness, but now is just a seat, with which he uses the van's shoulder/ seat strap). But he prefers it. :) Although, sometimes, to have personal space, he sits in the bottom booster part of the Affix in the back seat.
LM might be in her 5-point harness for a long time yet due to maturity. (This is the guide I use.) I recently saw that the Affix was 50% off, so that is why I bought our second Affix. When she's ready to move out of her Extend2Fit, she can use the (non-mouse-eaten!) highback Affix.
How many car seats have you purchased? ;-) Only the Nautilus & the extra Chicco base were full price. We got smarter as time went on. ;)
