Where you live, it may be 2009 in the year of our Lord, but here in Japan we have entered year 21 of the current emperor's reign. My brain is too small to handle things like left and right, or year conversions, or even keeping track of two separate year numbers. I still was trying to remember if last year were "2008 or 2007?", "20 or 21?", and now it's 2009 & 21.
"Why remember it, if I can look it up?" is my motto. A quick glance at my calendar reminds me which year of the Gregorian calendar we are in. And whenever I have to write out my birthday on an official form, I pull out my driver's license, which states that I was born in Year 46 (of the Showa Era).
