2024 was the year of the Lord's mercy. It could have been a year of near misses. But it wasn't.
- Both Jim's dad and my mom had health situations that could have taken them to heaven.
- Harvest took forever, due to lots of mechanical delays. I'm not sure we ever thought, "Maybe they won't finish," but I guess that's always a possibility. We're thankful they finished!
- I was a passenger on a train that hit a vehicle.
- I had an asthma attack running to catch a connecting flight.
- BK almost missed a week of camp, when I discovered at 3 or 4 PM on Saturday (before Sunday drop-off) that he needed a camp-specific health form filled out by a doctor.
- A hearing aid went missing at that camp, and was never found despite calling in police dogs and also using a metal detector!
- We had a few encounters with unscrupulous people regarding my parents' farm, and though it could be argued we were swindled out of some money, the Lord protected us from something bigger (which they had planned).
We're thankful for the Lord's provision & protection.
- Who knew that pediatric hearing aids have insurance that cover both damage and loss?!
- I was able to go six months between visits to my rheumatologist in Chicago (the visit kept being delayed; see train wreck above & then the doctor was stricken with norovirus).
- The Lord answered prayer & led my doctor to a good regimen.
- Jim's almost 95-year-old Dad and his wife are our primary childcare providers (& we depend on them a lot!).
- Approximately 30,000 miles of safety in our van.
- How the Lord worked out my parents' farm auction!
- How He led me to four archivists and an antique dealer!
To sum up our year:
- Parenting means being detectives
- A month of intense global testing for one child
- A new diagnosis that came from that
- The discovery of a condition in one member of our family (that affects our planning)
- A summer of tutoring, daycare, and both children being on a new-to-us summer swim team
- Hearing aid & hearing aid charger adventures & misadventures
- Prescription for glasses, which have been broken, lost, and re-ordered. It's a saga!
- Genetic testing to determine the type of BK's hearing loss
- My average sleep went from 6 hr 41 min per day to 7 hr 24 min per day. Hooray!
- Even with extra sleep, my brain is often not working well. Lots of mistakes ... lots of mercy!
