Nine couples in our church are celebrating their wedding anniversary this month. Well, in a church of almost 1000, probably many more than nine couples are celebrating a June anniversary.
Nine of the couples with anniversaries in June have all been married more than 50 years. They are celebrating their 52nd, 53rd, 54th, 58th, 59th, 60th, 61st and 65th anniversaries!
What a wealth of experience! 527 combined years of God's faithfulness in marriages!
The pastor's announcement was not solely an announcement of congratulations, but he connected it to each of us, reminding us of the resource these nine couples are for us!
"If any of you are having difficulty in your marriage, take heart, these couples have experienced difficulty, too. The Apostle Paul says that those who marry will face many troubles in this life. And God has helped them. Feel free to talk with them and ask them how God has helped them."
We have gotten to know one of these couples, and it was a joy to write on the card we sent them a message of thankfulness to God for the gift that their model of covenant faithfulness is to us!

But I thought you lived "in the country". A church of 1000 people? Wow!
Wendy, our village is population 1300, but we drive thirty minutes to church.
J, my context is coming from a country where there are probably only a handful of churches that size in the whole country! And those churches are buried in city — there are probably no villages within 30 minutes of any of them. If I came to your country, I'd certainly experience culture shock!
