What day is it?

It's Wednesday. 

I know that because we were looking forward to Little Guy's first ZOOM class on Wednesday, and that was today.

I also know that because tonight's Facebook live by our pastor was longer, and more like a normal prayer meeting, with some teaching included.  (More on that in another post.)

Let's talk ZOOM - For his 30 minutes of daily individual academic time, today his teacher reviewed coins and then played two different games with him.  She had sent me a list last night of how many coins to have on hand and a dice.  Individual speech (45 minutes 4 days/week) will start tomorrow. 

Group academic time (45 minutes daily) was a blast!!! I didn't count how many of his friends participated, but there are 14 or 15 in the class, and two team teachers, so that's a lot of people. :) The teacher let them all talk to each other freely until the last one showed up.  They were so excited, and it was so cute to hear them greeting each other. 

How do you lead an instructional time via ZOOM with more than a dozen 5-7 year olds?!?  They were each asked to bring one stuffed animal.  After they introduced their animal, they talked about what words they could use to categorize them, and then they had a chart where they each made a checkmark under big or little. 

Then the teacher read The Lion and the Mouse, which includes words like enormous and tiny. They discussed vocab, such as fret.  They practiced predicting the outcome and reading comprehension. 

Then they each picked a number.  The teacher announced which friend's name they had chosen, and said, "You get to write that friend and ask what their favorite animal is and tell them what yours is."  (Moms and Dads were instructed to take a picture of the paper and send it to the other child's parent or to the teachers to forward.)

So, handwriting practice, friendship skills, taking turns, learning technology, reading comprehension, and more! I was impressed! 

LG is looking forward to next week when the full schedule starts.  The beloved social worker will be joining them two days a week. And the amazing lady who has lit a fire under them about learning the presidents will be joining them two days a week also. 

I cannot say enough about LG's school!  We are thankful!
