The main benefit of PTA recycling day is that one can put out PET bottles. (In my city the only other option for disposing of PET bottles, is to put them in recycle bins outside the grocery stores.)
In addition to PTA recycling, city recycling, and grocery store recycling, the newspaper companies offer newspaper recycling each month for their subscribers. Both the PTA and the city recycle newspapers as well, so I rarely take advantage of the newspaper's special recycling day. But last month I did.
It seems they recycle the newspaper into toilet paper... instantly! Each person who sets out their newspapers fills out this yellow form with name and address. The recycle truck leaves behind one roll of toilet paper made from recycled newspaper for every so many kilograms of newspaper that each person set out.
