On the appointed day, we meet partway. If everything cooperates (no sick children, no schools out for snow, no doctor's appointments or other pressing items in our schedules), we sit down at a table and make ourselves comfortable, settling in for a l-o-n-g lunch.
One could call it a "working lunch," as we work out what it means to believe the gospel in the current circumstances in our lives, in THESE days of our lives.
Our entrees devoured long ago, our cups of tea can last us several hours, as we listen, ask questions, share examples from our own lives (including the sin that so easily entangles), laugh, almost cry, nod our heads, wonder aloud at God's goodness to lavish on us so much that we do not deserve, and wonder aloud at our amnesia, so quickly forgetting His trustworthiness.
The time passes so very quickly. Children are waiting to be picked up. Errands need to be run. Life calls us back to the busy-ness. But for now, we have been still and been reminded to know that He is God. We have been refreshed. God has lavished even more of His goodness out on us!
But, before children are picked up and before errands are run, our calendars are opened, and next month's lunch is scheduled ... and eagerly anticipated!
God is so good to bring lunch friends into our lives!
