5524!!
This number filled the whiteboard in the front of the room where our church prayer meeting meets. The leader announced that it represents the number of New Testaments distributed by local Gideons at the university in town.
Between 1/5 and 1/4 of the student body received New Testaments on that Wednesday morning. What would happen if all of them ~ or even some of them ~ opened them up and read the words of life?
Later I learned from someone who was at our pastor's father's funeral, that our pastor's father did not grow up in a godly home, but during an illness, picked up a Gideon Testament, read it, believed it, and searched his town for a church that taught the same things that were in that Testament.
He died at a ripe old age, having lived a godly life and left a legacy, including two sons who have been entrusted with shepherding local flocks and preaching the Word and one son who ministers the Good News to those from a hard-to-reach religion.
What stories might be told in coming decades of those who received one of these 5524 New Testaments in the fall of 2012?
