And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard?A new lady (probably in her early 60s) came to one of my Bible studies once in November and a couple times in December.
She joined an English class last year, and has had a weekly Bible lesson there. Later she started studying the Bible with others, too.
When she made a comment about being new to the Bible, I asked her when she read the Bible for the first time.
"Last year."
Meeting someone for the first time who has never read the Bible, or who was just recently introduced to it, is always a wake-up call for me. Most of my Japanese friends are ones I met through English class or Bible study, and so they all have read and are reading the Bible. But the fact is that there are millions of real-live Japanese people who have not read the Word of God.
On this Christmas Sunday, all over Japan, people who have never been to a church service in their entire life, will gather courage to attend a Christian worship service. Some of them return. Many of them do not.
We pray for open hearts, prepared soil, and lasting fruit.
