Year in Review - 2008 - 変

The Japanese Kanji Proficiency Society's choice for the representative kanji for 2008 is

変

meaning "change." 2008 was a year of change in the politics of both Japan and the USA, in the economy and in the environment.

Change can be good, and keep us on our toes, but too much change can bring feelings of instability, anxiety and fear.

When those feelings come, we need a firm foundation.

We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.

May 2009 be the year when many find their firm anchor in Jesus, who never changes.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.
