Mr. & Mrs. N (Senior), both silver-haired, she with her cane, were at our church in Japan for Missions Sunday in June with three of their grandchildren. They were house-sitting / babysitting while their son was in Australia filling in for a couple months for the American missionary pastor of a Japanese Church. Their daughter-in-law had gone for two weeks to be with him, and the grandparents were filling in at home.
Senior Mr. N went to seminary after he retired, graduated in March and is continuing to plant a church near their home an hour away. The first Sunday of house-sitting / babysitting he filled the pulpit of the church plant that his son normally preaches in, and the second Sunday he taught one of the seminars at Missions Sunday.
On my way to the parking lot after Missions Sunday, I greeted them, and senior Mr. N made a point to thank me for taking care of him on the pastors' & elders' vision trip to America five years ago.
In Japan, the statute of limitations never runs out for thanking someone for a past kindness.

yes I hear you. every time I see this same man he thanks me for packing him a Japanese lunch while staying with us 9 years ago. We could learn a lot from this culture- to remember and acknowledge thankfulness again and again.
