I think I've written here before about my reverse culture shock in preparing dishes to take to potlucks. I stumbled across Taste of Home's America's Best Church Supper Recipes. (I think it's out of print, but it may be at your library. They have newer versions available now.)
I've declared it my "Cooking in America for Dummies" book and lean on it heavily. Anything I make from it gets rave reviews. Granted, it's rarely healthy or the type of food I normally make.
I've taken to using it when we have company also. In the spirit of full disclosure, if you've eaten at our house when I used that cookbook, please know that most meals here aren't that tasty. :)
