I listened intently to the sermon, as the preacher began his introduction. He was leading up to a sermon on leprosy, and began by telling of a time when one of his children caught the flu, and how much he dreaded it being passed on to others in their family.
He took the child to the doctor's, and a menbou was inserted up the child's nose.
Quickly, I keyed in m-e-n-b-o-u in my electronic dictionary. I didn't think he meant "rolling pin," so I kept scrolling down. Aha! "Cotton swab" sounds more like it.
綿棒 and 麺棒 are both pronounced "menbou," but have very different meanings!
