Augustus Toplady expresses well the fact that my only hope, in life and in death, for salvation from both sin's guilt and also its power, is only found in Christ, my Rock. I so often slide into thinking that if I could do something for God, or try harder to fulfill the law, or be more zealous, or repent harder, my "chances" would be better. But Toplady clearly summarizes biblical teaching:
...all for sin could not atone; thou must save, and thou alone.
