Remedial English

After finishing the meal I had prepared (curry from a box, served over rice made in a rice cooker; you can't get more fool-proof than that), the Scottish missionary proclaimed, "Thank you. That was nice."

The German missionary piped up, "Americans don't say 'nice' about food. Food is 'good' or 'delicious,' but not 'nice.' That's what my American boss taught me years ago."

And so I learned one more thing about American English.
